Introduction

Infosys receives millions of fresher applications every cycle. The InfyTQ platform — Infosys's in-house assessment and screening tool — is the gatekeeper that determines whether you get to a Technical Round or never hear back.

Most guides to Infosys InfyTQ interview questions give you a list of questions and answers. That's useful for the HR Round. It's not enough for the Technical Round, and it won't help you understand what InfyTQ actually measures.

This guide covers how InfyTQ works, what questions come up in each round, and what actually separates candidates who advance from those who don't.

How Infosys InfyTQ screens fresher applicants

InfyTQ has two functions: it runs an online assessment (the InfyTQ exam), and it supports the subsequent interview rounds. Clearing the InfyTQ exam is the prerequisite for everything else.

InfyTQ Exam structure

  • Pseudocode / logical reasoning (this is not standard coding — it tests your ability to read and trace logic in a custom syntax)
  • Verbal ability (reading comprehension, fill-in-the-blanks, sentence correction)
  • Mathematical reasoning / quantitative aptitude
  • Coding: one or two problems, medium-easy difficulty

You need to clear a minimum sectional cutoff in each section, not just an aggregate score. This catches candidates who skip quant entirely to double down on coding — a common mistake.

After the InfyTQ exam, shortlisted candidates advance to Technical Interview (TR) and HR Interview. Some hiring cycles also include a Managerial Round, but this is more common for experienced lateral hires than for freshers.

InfyTQ Technical Interview questions — what actually comes up

The Technical Round is a 30–45 minute video or in-person interview with one or two panellists. It focuses heavily on your resume, so what you write on it determines which questions you face.

The first five minutes are almost always

  • "Tell me about yourself." Start with your technical background, your strongest project, and end with why Infosys. Not your hometown, not your hobbies.
  • "Walk me through your final year / best project." You should be able to describe the problem statement, your design decisions, the tech stack, and one specific challenge you encountered. Know the code, not just the concept.
  • "What programming language are you most comfortable in?" Pick one. Know it deeply. If you say Java, expect questions about Java-specific memory management, OOP concepts, and exception handling.

Data Structures and Algorithms

  • Difference between array and linked list — and when to use each
  • How does a hash map work internally in Java or Python
  • Explain binary search and its time complexity
  • What is a stack? Give a real-world use case
  • Basic sorting algorithms and when each is appropriate

Object-Oriented Programming

  • Explain the four pillars of OOP with an example from your project
  • What is the difference between abstraction and encapsulation
  • Explain polymorphism with a code example
  • When would you use an interface vs an abstract class

Database / SQL

  • Write a query to find the second-highest salary
  • Difference between INNER JOIN and LEFT JOIN
  • What is normalisation and why does it matter
  • Difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE, and DROP

Operating Systems basics

  • What is the difference between a process and a thread
  • Explain deadlock and how it can be prevented
  • What is virtual memory

Web / Software fundamentals

  • Explain the difference between GET and POST
  • What happens when you type a URL into a browser
  • What is REST and how does it differ from SOAP

The pattern: they go from "what is it" to "explain it in your project context." Memorising definitions fails at the second question. You need to have used these concepts in something real.

Infosys HR Interview questions freshers face

The HR Round is typically 20–30 minutes and is largely conversational. The questions are standard — but the assessment is deeper than most freshers expect.

Questions that come up in almost every Infosys HR interview

  • "Why Infosys?" — Mention the Mysore campus training program, InfyTQ certifications, or Infosys's consulting and digital practice. Vague answers read as low effort.
  • "Where do you see yourself in five years?" — Reference Infosys's internal mobility, global project exposure, or a specific practice area you want to build depth in.
  • "Tell me about a time you faced a challenge and how you handled it." — Use STAR format with real examples, not hypotheticals.
  • "Are you willing to relocate?" — Say yes. Infosys posts freshers across India.
  • "What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?" — Name a real weakness and what you're doing about it.

Common HR interview questions — honest frameworks

"What is your expected CTC?" — For freshers, Infosys has a standard band. You can say "I'm aware of the standard Infosys fresher package and I'm happy to align to that."

"Do you have any questions for us?" — Yes. Always. Ask about technology stacks on current projects, what Mysore training covers in depth, or what the joining team profile looks like. Generic culture questions are a missed opportunity.

How to write an Infosys resume that passes InfyTQ screening

InfyTQ parses your resume before any human reads it. The same ATS formatting rules apply here as anywhere in India's IT hiring market.

  • Use a clean single-column layout. InfyTQ handles standard Word and PDF formats well. Canva templates risk content being dropped.
  • CGPA matters at Infosys. Infosys has historically held a 60% / 6.0 CGPA cutoff. List CGPA accurately. If you have backlogs, do not omit them — InfyTQ cross-checks against university records.
  • List the tech stack from your projects in a standard format. Have a dedicated skills section: Programming Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Tools.
  • Tailor your summary to the Infosys Associate Software Engineer or Systems Engineer role. Include the role title, your strongest technical area, and project work.

What makes interview preparation actually work

Every fresher preparing for Infosys interviews reads question lists. Very few of them practice answering out loud, under time pressure, to a second person.

The gap between knowing an answer and articulating it fluently in a 30-minute interview is real. Most candidates discover it in the actual interview, not in preparation.

Effective preparation for Infosys freshers:

  1. Prepare your project story until you can deliver it in 90 seconds without hesitation
  2. Practice the top 10 technical questions for your primary language — spoken aloud, not written
  3. Prepare three real examples for HR behavioural questions (STAR format)
  4. Do at least two full mock interviews — not just reviewing questions

The mock interview step is the one most people skip because it's uncomfortable. It's also the step with the largest return.

Preparing for the interview round tied to your specific application

Generic interview preparation gives you generic results. The technical questions you face in an Infosys interview for an Associate Software Engineer role are not the same as those for a Specialist Programmer role. The HR questions shift with seniority level.

GyanBatua's AI interview prep is built around the specific JD you're applying to — not a generic question bank. For a 30-minute text session it's ₹51; for a voice mock with delivery feedback it's ₹101. Both are designed to match the vocabulary and role context of the actual application.
